Beijing is not only home to one of China’s biggest mega cities but is also home to a country side community. These communities face a lot of issues, surving and space wise. One of the major problems the rural district faces is land shortage due to the fact the city produces a lot of waste products, it is stored in the less populated areas.
Every day the city's 20 million residents produce around 18 million tonnes of waste which is collected and brought to landfills which fill a lot of the rural area. Another problem they face is the gases and fumes going out of the city. A severe smog covered the city and rural areas for weeks in early 2013, elevating public awareness to dangers levels of polluting gases and prompting the government to roll out emergency measures. In 2013 the chinese government closed down 500 waste landfills, and they are working on closing down more to help the rural community to create more space for the growing population. The gases are a massive problem throughout the rural and urban district and the government are trying to help by closing down factories that dispose to much substance, but for now the changes are not happening fast.
